La Jolla

Located just 12 miles north of downtown San Diego, and surrounded on 3 sides by 7 miles of ocean bluffs and beaches, you’ll find one of the most beautiful and affluent communities in the nation: La Jolla (pronounced La Hoya).

Compared to other areas of San Diego, you’ll find few La Jolla short sales, and the number is expected to decline even more as selling prices climb. Home prices in La Jolla attest to its exclusivity, with the average price of a home at over $1.25 Million.

It’s no wonder that La Jolla finds favor with the affluent.

With breathtaking views, world-class shopping, one-of-a-kind dining, attractions in every direction, an enviable climate, and employment for some of the finest academic and scientific minds in the world, La Jolla has it all.

Here you’ll find the University of California, San Diego, which includes the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the San Diego Supercomputer Center. Nearby Torrey Pines Science Park is home to the Scripps Research Institute, the Sanford-Burnham Institute for Allergy and Immunology and the Salk Institute.

Without a doubt, La Jolla is one of the world’s great centers for medical research and biotechnology.

But of course, a large part of La Jolla’s appeal is recreational opportunities.

Golfers who follow the PGA Tour are familiar with La Jolla, and the Torrey Pines Golf Course. Each January or February Torrey Pines is host to the Farmer’s Insurance Open, formerly known as the Buick Invitational. And the rest of the time… residents enjoy this world class course.

Life in an ocean-front community wouldn’t be complete without access to the water. Beaches and ocean access include Windasea Beach, La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Cove, and the Children’s Pool Beach.

Since 1931, La Jolla has been the host of an annual rough water swim at La Jolla Cove. What began as a challenge between 7 men in 1916 has now grown into an event which attracts more than 2,000 swimmers annually.

La Jolla Cove offers perfect views of the entire 1.7 mile course, so spectators can watch the race from start to finish. The 2012 race is scheduled for September 9.

Demand for homes in La Jolla is increasing as International buyers and affluent retirees discover La Jolla’s year-round sunshine, mild climate, and endless supply of things to do and places to go. Thus, prices will continue to rise.
